Residential Cost Breakdown
Most residential hydroseeding lands between $0.10 and $0.25 per square foot. Larger, open lots with soil that's already properly graded tend to sit toward the lower end; smaller, sloped, or difficult-access yards that need soil preparation first tend toward the higher end.
See the residential hydroseeding service page for what's included in a typical visit.
Commercial Cost Per Acre
Commercial and civil hydroseeding is priced by the acre rather than the square foot, typically $2,500 to $4,000 per acre. Whether the scope is temporary or permanent stabilization has the biggest effect on where a project falls in that range, followed by specification requirements, acreage, access and how many separate mobilizations the project needs.
Larger, continuous acreage often costs less per acre than small or scattered areas, since mobilization and setup costs get spread over more ground. For a project-specific number, send plans and specs through our bid request page.
Hydroseeding vs. Sod vs. DIY Seed & Straw
Industry-wide, traditional DIY seed and straw is the cheapest option up front, roughly $0.07–$0.23 per square foot in material and rental costs, but it's also the slowest to establish and the most exposed to washing out on any slope, since there's no anchored mulch holding seed in place. Sod costs the most, commonly $0.87–$1.76 per square foot installed, but gives an immediate, usable lawn. Hydroseeding sits in between on cost and gives faster, more uniform results than dry seed and straw, with far less upfront cost than sod.
| Method | Typical Cost | Trade-Off |
|---|---|---|
| DIY Seed & Straw | ~$0.07–$0.23 / sq ft | Cheapest upfront, slowest to establish, washes out easily on slopes |
| Hydroseeding (Prime) | $0.10–$0.25 / sq ft | Faster, more uniform coverage; anchored mulch holds through weather |
| Sod | ~$0.87–$1.76 / sq ft installed | Immediate lawn, highest cost, can struggle to root into compacted clay without prep |

Minimum Project Charges
Our minimum price is $1,400 for residential lawns up to 6,000 square feet. Mobilization, mixing and setup take roughly the same time regardless of project size, so smaller lawns are priced at this flat minimum rather than scaled down per square foot. Above 6,000 square feet, pricing follows the typical $0.10–$0.25 per square foot range.
